My second trip to R & J was day and night when compared to my first. The first time out, service was awful and really slow. Our table asked for water four times, and still wound up tabbing out with no water almost forty minutes after first asking. The second time around, service was great, and so was the food. The Mac and Cheese is awesome. The cocktail weenies are a fun app. The fried chicken is delicious, and the drinks are great. If you want something a little more swanky than Fassler, or you're not quite ready to head to Bleu Garten yet, give R & J a try. And make sure to order food, because the drinks are strong.

The drinks are always delicious. The fries are my favorite bar snack. They are INCREDIBLE. Order with blue cheese and ranch! And Prosecco on tap GET REAL! One of my favorite spots in midtown for sure!! The atmosphere takes you out of OKC right from the door. A very intimate experience.

I'm really torn between 3 and 4 stars. 3.5 is probably a better summation of my feelings towards R&J. Like other reviewers have said, it's tiny with an absolutely '60s retro ambiance. I'm glad I came in the middle of the afternoon, because small, crowded bars are just not my thing. And it seems pretty likely this place will pack out in the evening! I tried the french-fried shrimp and hush puppies, which were very good for the most part. The shrimp had this lingering aftertaste that I can only describe as "too much pepper." But the hush puppies were bomb, and I'd happily eat those any day. Since I was drowning my sorrows over the fact that my apartment complex closed the pool the day before the 4th of July, I opted for a tiki drink, which sadly did not come in a tiki glass (even though I could see plenty of them sitting behind the bar...) Note that the tiki drinks were pricey. My Singapore Sling was good, but not $12 good. I wish I had gone for the more inexpensive options! But overall, R&J ain't bad. I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way, but if I'm in the Midtown vicinity, it seems like a decent place to stop by for a drink.

We came for brunch to try the food and loved it! I had the shrimp and grits and my fiancé had the green chile breakfast casserole. He did say the portion was a bit small (especially compared to the rest of ours), but he liked it. I loved the shrimp and grits and added some Sriracha. This is one of our favorite spots - great ambiance, great drinks and great food!

First trip here and in the 4th of July, no less. Cool, old school vibe it's, small with only 6 tables and maybe 10 bar seats. The drinks were good and the food was really nice. Only one server, but they weren't busy when we came in. I had chicken and waffles and my girlfriend had the special salad. Both were delicious. Good portions and food was hot and fresh. Only one complaint- the music r from the kitchen was too loud and modern, obviously the staff was back there rocking. Not cool because the 50's music sets the theme. When you can hear music from the kitchen, not cool. Mgmt needs to get that fixed.

The R&J Lounge and Supper Club is what we in the business like to call a hidden gem. The service is top notch, the atmosphere is inviting, and the location is prime. Walking into this place is like going back to a time when bars and supper clubs had dominion over the witching hour. I recommend this establishment. If you need a quiet place to forget about things for awhile, then the supper club is the place for you.
(5)John D.
The drinks are good and well priced, food was decent but the service BLOOOOOOWWWWS. I've been there a dozen times now and bad service is the one thing they do consistently well. I like the concept inside and outside but the two don't really mix. But don't take my word for it, try it for yourself.

I have a new love in my life; it is R&J. I love, love, love the retro vintage lounge, complete with leather, a fireplace, and jazz music (live every Wednesday night). I imagine they have many leather bound books and their apartment smells of rich mahogany. They are that cool. Their 4-season patio is pretty awesome as well. However, I get the mixed reviews. It's a small place with a limited menu. I would never bring my mom here or a baby. It just isn't that kind of place. They are serving a niche market and I fit into it perfectly. Just be prepared for classic appetizers, entrees, and cocktails. I have tried several of their food options and can see why some of the reviews are mixed. The East Side Chicken just isn't Bobo's. But their Caesar salad and the lamb burger taste so good it makes me wanna slap yo' mama. So just be adventurous and realize that certain items may not be your cup of tea and that's ok. A great time to try some menu items is during their happy hour, which is daily 2p-5p. They have several of their appetizers half priced. I personally am looking forward to trying their weekend brunch. But let's be honest, the real highlight at R&J is the cocktails. Most recently I ordered a Greyhound (gin and grapefruit juice) for $4.30. That's right. Cheap. I didn't taste an ounce of grapefruit juice and let's just say that one cocktail will do the trick. Another favorite is the equally potent R&J Grasshopper which has ice cream, chocolate, mint, lots of liquors, and magic. Man is it good. And for $5.20 it can't be beat. All this talk of cocktails and lamb burgers has my craving me some R&J. Now, if you excuse me I need to go get in my car.

This lounge bar is such a nice place to have an old fashioned cocktail. Especially an old fashioned! The menu has a wide selection of cocktails that were straight out of the 50's. From the minute you walk in you feel transported to a lounge bar from the past. It has that super cool, swanky vibe. The interior is very cozy and intimate and the patio is adorable. The patio has a fireplace, cute patio sets, globe lights and... AstroTurf. I had the fried chicken and it was perfect! The macaroni and cheese was delicious also. Everyone at our table was satisfied with their food selections. I can see this place being a cool place to take out of towners, and a neat date place.
(5)Anna F.
R&J is a must visit for the atmosphere, plus you won't find better drinks nearly anywhere. If you enjoy the style of the 60s, you'll feel right at home here. It isn't very big inside but their patio has a good amount of seating to make up for it. They even have it covered in the winter and the indoor/outdoor fireplace makes it nice and toasty outside! I enjoy the people who come to R&J and my service has consistently been good. For the food, I'm really not the biggest fan. I've had the lamb milanese and east side chicken, which both didn't satisfy like I had expected. I came for brunch another time and liked it better than dinner though. Ultimately I come here to partake in the libations and hang out with friends. I say skip the food here but try all of the fancy drinks! They are also a lot more reasonably priced than the food.

Yes, yes, yes, uh huh, yep! I want the food all the time, I want the drinks all the time, I want the atmosphere all. of. the. time. They have this place down to the details. From the vintage tiki glasses for their signature cocktails to the wallpaper, to the perfectly planned meu - every single thing has been carefully thought through and it shows. They have a particular meal, The Special, that is EXACTLY how I want to eat. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a poached egg. Just perfect. Please get it, and take a picture and send it to me so I can live vicariously through you. The prices here are super reasonable as well, drinks and food. You'd likely spend the same amount at Chili's with MUCH better quality all around. The patio! It's so quirky and fun. The inside is dark and romantic, with some of the coolest wallpaper I've ever seen, in the dining room and in the bathrooms. If you're dressed to the 9's or in your Sunday sweats, you'll still fit in here and feel comfortable. One more thing, this is definitely one of those places, you can go alone or with a few friends, and still feel at home. If you do go alone, it's verrrry likely you'll run into someone you know. Pro Tip: It's tiny. Unless you're wanting your big group to hang out outside, best not to bring your whole family here for dinner. Pro Tip 2: They put a lot of care into their cocktails, and for good reason. Drinks are not going to come out lightning fast, so be chill.
(5)Lacy K.
I love R&Js. The atmosphere is very fun (Mad Men meets Junior?) and definitely wins three stars. I do think it's overpriced and as someone who doesn't eat red meat or lamb there were not a lot of options for entrees. Matt had the stuffed mushrooms and chicken and dumplings and said everything was great, especially the mushrooms. I had the macaroni and cheese, which was toot ad tart for my tastes, and one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. I just wish it wasn't $20!

I arrived wanting to love this place. Having heard about it, I was so excited to try it out, hopefully tell friends & eventually bring out of town visitors to show them a cool, local memorable place. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to do any of that. We arrived with a child and asked about a kids seat. We were told by our waitress (in a very drone-like manner) that they don't offer anything of the kind. Okay, fair enough, not every place accommodates children. The things that did bug me enough to not want to go back were the coldness of the server, and the price. My lunch entrée (which certainly was not a generous portion size) was $16. Too much for lunch in OKC. For another $6 I could've purchased a side but I just kind of got sticker shock. I also didn't order a beverage, appetizer, or anything, although my companion liked his cocktail. I get having to charge a little extra because you're a startup but that doesn't excuse the other gripes. As far as the service goes, I don't think I'm asking too much for the server to have a tiny bit of personality and not seem like they're having the worst day of their life. Those 2 negative aspects really overwhelmed the whole experience. In all fairness... positive aspects. The atmosphere IS cool and nostalgic, and the food we ordered was tasty. Maybe I will come back for a brunch sometime in the future. After all, I wanted to like it, and brunches can be different and good. And I think they maybe would make a few changes after reading the reviews here.

Created an account to give this review. Food was greasy and bland. Bad value. Horrible service. $40 for 2 plates, which I'm ok with spending for the right product. I cannot think of a worse restaurant to spend $40 at! And if you are crazy enough to decide to eat there, good luck finding the building!
(1)Sara S.
Excellent cocktails and very low prices! The Ramos fizz is my favorite because it tastes like a light and fluffy key lime pie. Also, if you're hungry, the shrimp and hush puppies are awesome!
(5)Paige G.
What a great spot! I wish I had gone hungry, but my friends and I stopped here when visiting from Austin. I had a delicious old fashioned and my partner had a perfect martini. The prices were about half of what I'm used to for cocktails and the ambiance reminded me of a Vegas lounge. Will definitely save room for food when I visit next month!

I had heard about this new place for quite sometime and I have to admit that when I first drove by and saw the sign I was instantly in LOVE. I just wish the overall experience had stacked up to the amazing décor. The bar was dark and cold, just the way I like it. The patio is eccentric and hilarious except I would get rid of the multicolored lights and just put up white ... it would go better with the overall theme of the patio. Now to the food. We ordered the Spreads Plate and a side of Mac & Cheese to share and I have to say that all of that was outstanding. Well I can't say everything. I didn't try the egg salad on the Spreads Plate because it looked like tuna fish and I couldn't figure out why. But the Ham Salad, Cream Cheese with Jezebel Sauce, Artichoke Dip and Pimento Cheese Spread were amazing. So, you might wonder why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5? One simple answer ... the drink prices are out of control. $10 for a Hendricks and Soda is not worth the good food in my book. Not when I can get a bag of Funyuns and a $5.50 Hendricks and the HiLo. I did mention this to one of the owners when I saw him out and about and he said he would take look, so I reserve hope that if the drink prices go down a bit this could be one of my new favorite places. All in all though, definitely worth stopping by just have your cocktails at home before you come.
(4)Clint C.
Over crowded. Outdoor heaters did not work. Food was cold. Drinks tasted like medicine.
(2)Sarah E.
Drinks are good, and it's nice that they have prosecco on tap, but the service isn't great and the food is not good at all. I've been several times and it's a cool place to hang out but it always seems sweltering hot and the servers are always a bit too busy to check on you. I ordered food once along with everyone at my table, and another time didn't order but others at my table did. Both times everyone was severely disappointed. I get the theme here and the old fashioned food vibe they're trying to pull off, but it just comes across as underwhelming and an afterthought.

Summary - Atmosphere - Fun and cozy. - Service - Good enough. No complaints. - Drinks - Delicious cocktails. Poor beer selection. - Food - Okay. Not very sophisticated. ___________________ Atmosphere - Fun and cozy. Very small. 6 tables plus a bar. They do not take reservations so going a little later will save you a 30-45 min wait on the patio. The patio is fun with bright lights and heaters, but still very chilly this time of year. My only complaint is their silverware. They did not bring out a steak knife with the lamb milanese.... and all the silverware is old and clunky. Service - Good enough. No complaints. They have an awesome manager with great energy. He was on top of everything (clearing tables, updating the patio on wait times, etc). Drinks - Cocktails were excellent. The old fashion was perfect. My only complaint is their beer selection sucks. Food - Okay.... To summarize, it is not very sophisticated. Everything tasted great except the lamb milanese which was fatty, chewy and overbreaded. But this just really isn't my style. The cheesy crab toast was fun and yummy, the Caesar salad was good enough, and the special salad was huge and really should be a meal or an appetizer (it is a platter with a hunk of brie, jam, a ton of prosciutto, croissant, lettuce, dressing, and egg...). I had the lobster roll for dinner which was delicious and had huge hunks of lobster... but I question whether this should really be on a dinner menu. Don't be scared of the r&j potato which has corn flakes on top. Some how it works. The sundae was yummy.... but as with everything we had, I'm not sure it is quite sophisticated enough. My only large complaint is the lamb milanese.

Had a great time in this bar. Very close and vintage vibe. Service was top notch. The R&J Sower was an awesome drink. They had Guinness ob tap which is always a plus. We only had appetizers but no complaints there. On the needs improvement side we did not like the "wine on tap" but I spoke with the one of the owners who said it is one of the things they know there is room to improve on and they are eager to do so.
(5)Steve R.
VERY small--like six or seven tables plus the bar. When the temperature's moderate, there's a large, heated enclosed patio, which probably triples their space. The vibe is very 60s Madmen/Lounge Lizard. I had the red wine on tap, and it didn't suck! A little sweeter than my taste, but it was smooth. My wife reports the lamb burger is just as delicious as @ Ludivine! It's completely hidden from the street, so maybe it'll be a secret a little longer and we won't have to fight for a seat. Looking forward to trying again.

This Place is Awesome. I have been with my girlfriend and friends several times. It is exactly what this city has been needing. If you are down for a swank experience with amazing service go here!
(5)John E.
I heard about this place from my trainer and decided to check it out with a friend of mine. I was a bit surprised at how little the indoor space was when I first walked in. You walk straight into the bar and there is a small back area with about 5 tables. It's all open seating so first come first serve. Given the right weather conditions the outside area would be much more ideal than the inside. The outside has AstroTurf with several white metal garden seating. It was a bit cold. But the fire place and patio heaters made sitting outside comfortable. I didn't eat but I looked over the menu and ordered a Tom Collins and a Mint Julep. The Tom Collins was less than impressive. It was watered down and tasted a bit bland. The Mint Julep was fantastic. Looking over the menu there isn't really anything special about the menu choices. I'll have to come back for an actual meal so I'll reserve my judgment on that. Overall my first time experience was okay. Not bad enough to warrant a 3 star and not good enough to warrant a 5.
(4)Samantha G.
4 Stars on food, location and ambiance.. but as far as service, I think our waitress was having a bad night overall it should have been better. Waitress left our entire table with a "bad taste" of the place. We seemed to be bothering her with anything we needed. Was rather odd. Friend of mine, "I think they may have switched something in the drink with Sprite or something sweet"; waitress, just grabs drink and walks off, friend, "it's ok.."; waitress, "yah, i know it's ok". Just not the typical response you would have expected from a waitress when someone was really not trying to make an ordeal out of the bartenders mistake. Bartender, was super nice and came over with the drink and apologized for the mistake. Really was not that big of a deal but the waitress seemed so bothered by it, and I think she would have rather been somewhere else that night. Who knows, we all have bad days. Just want to go back and not judge my experience completely on her! Very tiny, so be prepared to wait if you come on the weekend and want to eat dinner. They don't take reservations. Love the patio and will be great for the spring/summer! Full service on the patio too! Great little bar and feel to the place. Very divey/hipster/speakeasy'ish..
(4)Angela S.
Hard to find but worth the hunt. We enjoyed sitting in the patio area. The post-game crowd got a little rowdy, but the staff handled it very professionally and without bothering the rest of us. The crab toast was excellent, as were the mussels. I have been searching for the equivalent of a Long Island lobster roll and this is the best so far in our state. My Tom Collins was awesome! We will be back!
(4)Jamie F.
From the second you walk through the door at R & J, everything is different. The music sends you back in time, the dim lighting is immediately comforting, and the seating invites you to stay for hours on end. Be sure to ask about specials! They're the only restaurant in OKC with champagne on tap!
(5)Patrick W.
The Missus and I decided to see what this place was about and I have to say I left feeling extremely conflicted about my experience. As others have stated, R & J is very small on the inside. However, there is an outdoor patio that than can accommodate more people should it become too crowded indoors. The crowd is really varied...ranging from hipsters to older ladies that enjoy their LITs. Honestly, I enjoyed such diversity and the quaint, friendly atmosphere. As for the food...I was really disappointed. I ordered their smoked chicken appetizer and was expecting some smokey flavor...but not for it to be so overwhelming that the flavor stuck with me the entire night. I can only explain it like this...are you familiar with that dying campfire smell that wakes you up in the morning and reminds you of why you need to stop having camping trips at Lake Thunderbird during Memorial Day weekend? Ok, take that smell, wrap it around fried chicken, and eat it. That sums up my experience with R & J's smoked chicken. The smokey flavor was so intense that it literally stayed with me all night. Granted, the chicken was cooked perfectly...however I just couldn't get over the smokey taste. The real winners at R & J are their mixed drinks and bartenders. I haven't seen such dedication to the craft of cocktail creation in a long, long time. In fact, I'd recommend R & J to anyone that enjoys a finely crafted cocktail. Although I wasn't a fan of my meal, I was a huge fan of the drinks. R & J definitely deserves your consideration if you're wanting to enjoy some drinks with your friends.
(3)Julie S.
This place is everything I hoped it would be. I have been excited about it since the first time I heard about it, and it seems to me just exactly like walking through a door and going back in time. From the decor to the menu and the glassware to the music, this place oozes mid-century kitsch. I feel like Quentin Tarantino will film a movie here, complete with Dick Dale tunes and Lucky Strikes. Good thing they've got old school matchbooks on hand. The hush puppies and fried shrimp are to die for. We also split the special, which was something akin to a Philly cheese steak. It was good, but the fries that came with were great. I think it's cool that they only had a light beer and a dark beer on tap. We had a fun time with our friends, and these booths were definitely made for some serious scheming. I can't wait to come back and try the lobster roll, and sometime when it's a bit nicer out, relax on the patio with a tiki drink. I'm in no hurry though, since I feel like this place with will be both a delightful throwback and an OKC staple for decades to come.
(5)Sandy N.
R&J was great! I enjoyed everything we ordered. We started out with - Cheesy crab toast For entrees: - New England Lobster Roll - Lamb Milanese - Mussel Miriniere Each entree came with choices of sides: From the list, we picked: - Mac&Cheese. Yum! - Green bean casserole - Sherried mushrooms Dessert: - GRASSHOPPER - chocolate banana cream pudding. Yum!! Enjoy!
(5)Juli M.
I like this place a lot, its very small and intimate. They have champagne on tap and their east side chicken is to die for.... the place feels vintage chic! My favorite part it's that it opens late! Prices are high, but I don't mind paying for great service, great food and a very different atmosphere!
(5)Lauren M.
This place is absolutely amazing. The food is great. We had the Cheesy Crab Toast, Weiners, Chicken, and Spreads. It was all super delicious and worth getting. I'd say my least favorite was the chicken. It was a little rubbery to cut but the honey flavor was yummy. The drinks were great, especially The Grasshopper. It made for a nice after dinner treat. Dessert with alcohol is a win. The service was okay. Our pre-dinner drinks by the bartender were great but our dinner server had too many tables. She could have used help especially on a Saturday night. I'll definitely make this restaurant part of my regular rotation.
(4)Sadie K.
I really like the atmosphere of this place! Some times it can be hard to pull of a themed restaurant or bar without it feeling cheesy but they did it perfectly. 1950-60s lounge feel with the food and drinks to match. Very small dining area but it adds to the atmosphere. They have a covered patio and a fireplace that make you feel like you're in someone's backyard (in the 60s). The drinks are good and on the strong side. I've only had brunch and it was good, but it'll be a great summer patio!
(4)Carly N.
This lounge is VERY small. There is not much room to get around. There are about 6-8 booths and tables if you want to sit and order food. How was the food? I tried the cocktail wieners and they were ok....not exactly worth the 8 bucks for a small plate. I thought prices are a bit high. Check out the menu pics I posted to get an idea. It's not exactly cheap eats here. Alcohol prices are a bit better. I didn't think they were too bad. Employees are nice and even on a busy night, it was easy to get their attention when we needed anything. I like the patio. There was more breathing room. Well, it was easy to breathe when people weren't smoking out there. There are lots of seating and strings of lights. Overall, this is not a bad place to hang out if you're already in the area. I'd come for drinks only.
(3)Vanessa D.
I hate giving bad reviews but something had to be said. My party of two was greeted at the door and told to sit anywhere we wanted. Since the inside was pretty full, we opted for the patio. We sat there for 15 minutes without anyone coming to give us waters or menus. The manager saw us and did nothing. We ended up leaving instead going on a search for a waitress. I'm not sure what happened but it will take a lot to convince me to give this place another shot!
(2)Brittany D.
New favorite place! Delicious food and drinks. Cheesy crab toast is probably the best app on the menu. Lobster roll and steak frites are solid entrees. Get the smoked Mac and cheese as a side. :) little pricy but worth every cent. Wait staff was awesome but the bartenders weren't as great. Seemed to not really check on people and they saw us sit at the bar. The atmosphere was awesome. It's such a tiny place but it doesn't feel that way. You could still have a conversation with the music playing too. The place gave off an underground bar/restaurant feel which is cool because you didn't feel like you needed to eat quickly and go. You could sit, eat, have a drink and catch up with friends. I would totally recommend this place to everyone!
(4)Megan C.
This new lounge has really good drinks and they are really reasonably priced for Midtown. I also really like that it's non-smoking. The outdoor area is nice too and there's more room there. We had the mussels, various veggies and mac 'n cheese too. The food was good and served very late. It's a good option for people who are hungry after midnight. As other reviewers have mentioned, however, it is small.
(4)Brendan B.
R&J is a classy little place that seems to believe it's still in the 1920's keeping its patrons safe from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. It's a somewhat hidden location, tucked in the shadows behind a storefront it shares a parking lot with, dim lights, and (very) small interior, you can't help but feel part of the exclusive club that the well-dressed and trained waiters and extensive drink menu seems to be tailored for. The prices are reasonable ($4 for a whiskey and coke) and the food is good. I've never ordered an entrée, so I'm not sure how good of a dinner place it is, but it's certainly appropriate for a date or a classy night out with friends out on their shaded patio. Overall, this is one of my favorite places in town, but since it's small and maintains a lounge atmosphere, I tend to use it as a stop through during the night as opposed to staying for hours. It's worth a try.

I love the atmosphere! A place with swank and style! My husband and myself went for the first time on Christmas Eve 2014. It was laid back with 50's & 60's style Christmas music playing. There was a male bartender that was dressed nice in black and white with a bow tie. He was so nice and helpful! I fell in love with the bar & thought to myself that this could be my regular place! Until...... My husband & I returned the evening of 12/26/2014. We walked into a packed bar (which was understandable since it was a Friday night). The quantity of the crowd didn't bother me, but the vibe surely did! My husband and I were lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar, almost 10 minutes later of patiently waiting for our drink order a female bar tender looks at my husband and rudely says, "Do you need something?", my husband says yes and we order our drinks. We wait another 7 minutes for our food order... The rest of the time we heard another female bartender complaining about having to be at work at 10 the next morning and the other bartender talking to a customer about the "pretentious customers" in the bar that night. It was not fun, the outside crowd kept leaving the patio door open causing it to be freezing inside the lounge ( not that it's the bars fault but it was noticeably annoying and uncomfortable.) I understand the bartenders and waitstaff may have had a rough night, I use to waitress so I completely get it, but there's a time and a place to vent your anger .. And certainly not to a customer that just sat down for a drink. It's a shame because I do love the look, the style, but the attitudes and rudeness ruined it. I've been to some of the "diviest", hole in the wall, packed out bars all over the U.S. and have never experienced something like this! I hope it proves me wrong next time and maybe that night was just an off night.... My first YELP review of this place was 5 star positive review (but that was judging being there on Christmas Eve with a friendly bar tender).
(2)Mistyday H.
1st thought intimate & cozy. Does accomplish the supper lounge on a small scale. I waited almost 15 minutes after getting my water. No suggestions by my waiter. I chose the east side chicken out of curiosity of what exactly by definition that meant. It was dark meat chicken pieces with liquid smoke drizzled in honey. I smell an imposter, a replica of bobo's chicken. I grew up eating bobo's and knew him personally. Back to R &J supper club eastside chicken. It was over cooked, had more crust then good chicken pieces(I hate mystery meat or pulled chicken pieces) Inside was one bite size pieces. One of my chicken size nuggets was way too salty. I like seasoned chicken, but good God. Lol. My waiter didn't ask me how was it. I guess because I picked over the "poor replica of eastside chicken. I asked for my check and it was passed off quickly to me. But I want to keep hope alive and try the strawberry pound cake maybe on another day. One thing on the menu that made me say wowsers, was the $15 pork and beans. You can hear exactly what every table is talking about. I felt like I had bionic ears. Well I guess ill pay, tip and tip toe to somewhere else to eat. I felt like I just ate berries and nuts while being stranded in the Forrest. Basically I'm just as hungry as I was when I walked In the door.

We dine at R&J's last night after spotting a tiny chalkboard sign pointing to a parking lot. In other words, very difficult to find! I appreciate the cool vibe and ambiance but this joint is DARK. I could not see the food on my plate. I ordered the chicken and dumplings. Didn't know if I got a "tiny" dumpling or a mushroom until I tasted it. Also two of the four entrees were cold. Service left much to be desired... Our waitress had the personality of a fence post.

Wow. What a treat! This place has the stuff! Right as the joint was opening, I found myself pulling into R&J's parking lot. Apparently 11:09am is the time to arrive! I was the only customer in the joint, and the bartender, Sarah, was the tops! I had a French 75 & a champagne cocktail, and I couldn't have been more pleased with them. I didn't eat, but the menu looked tasty. Additionally, they have a bad@$$ patio. Absolutely recommended.

I was so excited when I heard about this place I could not wait to try it. I expected it to be small after reading the reviews, but it was even smaller than I imagined. They only have 8 tables, but there was no wait on the weeknight we went. What I did not expect was the noise level. The music they play is great, but the loud obnoxious guys drinking at the bar was not. Every time we would start to have conversation, they would start yelling and we couldn't hear each other 2 feet away. The drinks were very good. You can taste the quality ingredients and fresh juices in the cocktails, and I appreciate this and will pay extra for it. The Caesar salad was good. It was not the typical caesar, and had an ingredient we could not quite place. I love that. When the meal arrived, it smelled and tasted great. However, like a lot of other reviewers here, we felt like the food was slightly burnt. I am not sure if this is the theme they are going for or not, but it seems to be consistent. I cannot rave enough about the delicious and quality ingredients they use, but the fact that this is supposed to be run by gourmet chefs makes burning the food inexcusable. Turn down the heat on the food and turn down the noise from the bar and this is a place I would frequent. As it stands now, I probably won't go back very often.

I'm happy to report that they realized the music sucked and they've gone to a more appropriate soundtrack ... curated not by one person but by a robot named Pandora. It is such a relief. Excited to confidently say to any and everyone, "this is my new favorite place."

We met a friend for happy hour here. Not knowing that R & J recently opened, and after noting the decor and menu, she said, "I wonder how long this place has been here?" I think that probably means R & J has nailed the vibe. No, not probably, definitely, considering we were so comfortable in one of the booths that we stayed for... quite a long time! It's the perfect place for drinks. Awesome decor, atmosphere, and music selection and it's quiet enough inside to have a conversation. Unfortunately, we were less impressed with the food. After browsing some reviews, I opted for the lamb burger and sherried mushrooms. My food was SO salty. I am generally pro-salt, but this was extreme and surely isn't how the food normally tastes coming out of the kitchen. My partner was underwhelmed by the stroganoff and felt the portion was small. Maybe it was an off night, as they say. Super cool place for drinks, though, and if I were rating R & J solely based on drinks, my rating would be in the 4-5 star range, because they've nailed it. This will definitely be on my short list of places to take out-of-towners.
